My Friend Meike does a lot of artwork in her blog. So here is my first version of a high contrast photo in black and white.

maybe you could improve the pic by a deeper contrast: select the area of mouth and nose in the original photo with a feathered selectiontool and make a hard contrast. Same with the chin, so that the shadow under the chin will be darker. Afterwards edit the general contrast. :)
